Circular Night - Solar-powered Electronic Music and Light Art

The format makes sustainability a visible and functional component of the performance rather than merely a communication theme. The integration of renewable energy, low-consumption LEDs, electronic music, art and a shared sound system across eight venues creates a unified urban experience. This combination can be replicated in different squares and festivals and engages audiences who are normally distant from environmental conferences.

Life-Cycle Thinking
Circular Night was developed to reduce the environmental footprint of music events while making the ecological transition understandable and desirable for a broad audience. The project operates within the cultural events and nightlife entertainment sector, where electricity consumption, temporary installations and scenic materials can generate significant impacts. Circular Night is a low-impact musical and artistic format held on 18 October 2025 in Piazza del Plebiscito, also known as Piazza del Papa, in Ancona, as part of the Green Loop Festival. The DJ set by I TALES and the chromo-sonic installation by Lorenzo Malloni use low-consumption LEDs. Energy is produced by photovoltaic panels and managed through a battery storage system supplied by GES – Green Energy Service S.r.l. Società Benefit. The installation uses recovered materials that have been diverted from waste and transformed into durable scenic elements. The temporary and replicable nature of the format allows the installation to be reused in subsequent editions. In relation to the waste hierarchy, the project therefore prioritises prevention and reuse. At the end of their life cycle, components and materials should be separated and sent for recovery or recycling. The shared sound distribution system across eight venues avoids duplicated equipment and transforms the entire square into a sustainable dance area.
The design choice has not yet been supported by measurement, although measurement is planned for subsequent stages. Circular Night was held on 18 October 2025, involving a network of eight venues in Piazza del Papa and a large audience, documented through photographs. The DJ set and low-consumption LED installation were powered by renewable energy generated by photovoltaic panels. The format demonstrated technical feasibility, the ability to animate an urban space and replicability. Certified data on the kWh produced and consumed, the quantity of recovered materials and the emissions avoided are not yet available. Future editions are expected to include measurements based on energy, material and participation indicators.
