Sorami – A Biological System for Air Quality

The challenge was to improve air quality by introducing a biological system into people’s lives. Sorami distinguishes itself by integrating air purification, biotechnology, and plant care into a single domestic system. Unlike conventional air purifiers, it combines a Chlorella vulgaris photobioreactor with HEPA and activated-carbon filtration, transforming purification into a more circular and natural process. Sensors and automated systems monitor air, water, and soil, managing liquid replacement and nutrient supply. The experience is completed by an app and a maintenance and replenishment service, making Sorami not merely a product but an ongoing environmental well-being system.

Sorami is an air-purification system that integrates HEPA filtration and activated carbon, a Chlorella vulgaris photobioreactor, and a plant, creating a domestic ecosystem monitored by sensors and managed through an app. Ecodesign is a fundamental aspect of the project. The structure is designed to be durable and maintainable and consists of replaceable elements, avoiding the replacement of the entire product when a single component wears out or malfunctions. Circularity is supported by a filter collection and regeneration service, automated water management, and nutrient replenishment. Within the waste hierarchy, Sorami prioritizes prevention and consumption reduction, followed by reuse and maintenance. Material recycling is considered subsequently, at the end of the product’s useful life. Sorami distinguishes itself by integrating air purification, biotechnology, and plant care into a single domestic system. Unlike conventional air purifiers, it combines a Chlorella vulgaris photobioreactor with HEPA and activated-carbon filtration, introducing a more circular purification process and a biological component.
Sensors and automated systems monitor air, water, and soil, also managing liquid replacement and nutrient supply. The experience is completed by an app and a maintenance and replenishment service, making Sorami an ongoing environmental well-being system rather than a single product. The design choice is not supported by measurement. Sorami proposes an integrated approach to domestic air quality by combining purification, monitoring, and a biological component. The project aims to reduce environmental impact through product durability, maintenance, and the replacement of individual components. The integration of Chlorella vulgaris and the plant introduces a natural dimension to the relationship between users and their domestic environment. The project’s impacts concern air purification, waste reduction, conscious resource use, and the extension of the product’s life cycle.
